Rain in the Street, Fragments of Memory: Introduction
A cold European winter, a poignant longing that soaks the inner world of a solitary stranger.
Rain in the Street is a memoir and intimate confession of a man set against the backdrop of Germany. Having lived as an outsider for over a decade, the protagonist sits in an empty cafe under a gray sky, tracing fading memories like raindrops scattered on the streets. The traces of old buildings, old music, and fleeting relationships permeate his lonely daily life, evoking long-forgotten scenes from the past.
Discord with family, a lover who has left, and a sudden separation from a precious relationship. The protagonist constantly confronts loss in the twists and turns of life, revealing an obsessive attachment to abandoned and let-go things. The perfectly organized minimalist space, the repetitive daily routine, and the struggle to not lose analogue sensibilities in a digital world all reflect his uneasy inner self.
An awkward reunion with his mother, news of an unexpected inheritance, and a short but intense encounter with a woman met in a strange city. The protagonist wavers between desire and regret, longing and compassion, constantly questioning his attachment to lost things and the meaning of life.
Rain in the Street delicately portrays the solitary portrait of a man melted into the bleak cityscape, and contains deep reflections on forgotten memories and scattered relationships, and the essence of life. Follow the poignant emotions of longing that resonate like the melody of Shigeru Umebayashi's 'Yumeji's Theme', and experience the warm consolation that fills the empty heart.
